Homemade Hair Treatments

We all know how hair can be a cause of pride or major despair! Some of us are blessed with naturally thick and shiny hair while others are constantly fighting their battle with their greasy, dull and disobedient hair. Sometimes, you just have to open your fridge and mix a hair mask from the ingredients you find on the shelves. You will have a fresh, all natural, homemade product. And the good news is that it will cost you just a few dollars or even cents.

Here are some recipes for hair masks you can easily make by yourself!

Hair masks for dry and damaged hair

Olive oil and honey mask

This mask is made by mixing olive oil and honey in equal parts. Honey is rich with vitamins and therefore adds shine to your hair while olive oil gives your hair the needed moisture. Apply the mixture starting from your ends towards the scalp. After applying, cover your head with a plastic wrap and put a warm towel on top of it. Leave the mask on for some 30 minutes, then shampoo out and rinse well. You can use this mask once a week.

Olive oil and egg mask

This nutritious mask is for all hair types. It makes your hair look shiny and silky. Mix 2 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and lemon juice (use 1 lemon). Apply the mask and leave it on for 20 minutes. Use this mask once a month.

Avocado hair mask

Mix 1 mashed ripe avocado with 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the creamy mixture to your hair and leave it there for 20 minutes. Wash it out with a gentle shampoo.

Banana and almond oil mask

Blend 1 ripe banana and few drops of almond oil. Massage the mask into your hair and leave it on for 30 minutes, and then wash it away with a gentle shampoo.

Masks for oily hair

Dandelion, apple and clay mask

With a mixer blend 1 tablespoon of dandelion root, 1 small cup of water and 1 sliced apple. Add to the mixture 3 tablespoons of green clay and the juice of 1 lemon, and bled it until the mask is homogeneous. Keep the mask on for about 60 minutes and then wash the hair with a shampoo.

Lemon mask

This lemon mask will make your hair nice and shiny! Squeeze 2 lemons and massage it into your scalp. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then wash it away. The lemon will act as an antiseptic and it will improve instantaneously the circulation of your scalp.

Masks to help get rid of dandruff

Fenugreek (methi) mask

This is a great recipe to get rid of dandruff. You must soak a small cup of fenugreek seeds overnight (use enough water to just cover the seeds). The next day grin the soaked seeds and then apply the mixture to your hair. Leave it on for some 20 minutes and then wash it away with a mild shampoo.

Parsley mask

The mask is made with parsley root. Mix 3 tablespoons of parsley root and add 3 tablespoons of castor oil. Apply the mixture once a week with and massage the scalp. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash it thoroughly.

Thyme rinse

This is not exactly a mask but it can help you get rid of your dandruff. Boil 7 tablespoons of dried thyme in 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes. Cool it and pour it over clean and wet hair. Massage it into the scalp and do not rinse.

Mask for split ends

Papaya mask

Take a ripe papaya, remove the skin and seeds and then blend it. Add a cup of yogurt and apply it on your hair. Keep it on for about 30 minutes and then wash it away.
