Revitalize Tired, Over-Processed Hair

Homemade hair treatments are great for the hair, and save money, too. If you are like many of us women, your hair is considerably stressed from bleaching and coloring, as well as heat treatments such as blow dryers, flat irons and the like. Why not consider giving your tired hair a break with an inexpensive hair treatment that you make yourself?

Homemade hair treatments can be made with simple ingredients straight from your refrigerator and pantry. For instance, did you know that you can make a super conditioning pack with raw eggs and olive oil? Just beat together a couple of eggs with 5-6 tablespoons of olive, and apply to dry hair. For maximum conditioning, tuck the hair up in a plastic shower cap, or wrap in plastic wrap. The body heat produced inside the plastic will open the hair shaft even more to allow the conditioner to work.

There are also homemade hair treatments to help reduce hair loss. Essential oils are diluted in a carrier oil such as avocado or jojoba oil and rubbed directly into the scalp. This treatment works to increase circulation throughout the scalp area. Essential oils reported to stimulate and maintain hair growth include basil, carrot, cypress, lavender, peppermint and tea tree. Before using any essential oil, be sure to consult a reputable guide to ensure that it is appropriate for use on hair and skin.

A homemade hair treatment that produces shine and volume is made from an infusion of fresh rosemary, cider vinegar and water. Simply add a few springs of rosemary to a cup or so of a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Leave in sealed container for a few days, and you will have a wonderful rinse to use after shampooing the seals the hair shaft and leaves the hair shiny and refreshed.

You can even make a homemade hair treatment especially for blondes. All you need is a couple of chamomile tea bags and some cider vinegar. Brew some strong chamomile tea with boiling water, let steep for 20-30 minutes and add 1/4 vinegar for a rinse that will bring out the natural highlights in your hair.

Finally, if you suffer from oily hair,a great homemade hair treatment is a conditioning hair mask with ripe banana, lemon & honey. Apply this mixture to dry hair, let sit on the hair for about 15 minutes, then shampoo out with a mild shampoo.Follow with a hair rinse for maximum shine. You can also use plain egg white applied to your dry hair to control oil. Let it dry in your hair, then shampoo out.Your hair should be noticeably less oily after this treatment.
